Why crash your BFP on metal?

High pressure boiler feedwater pumps are the heart of any power generation facility that uses steam to turn a turbine. Delivering reliable, at temperature, feedwater is the job of the BFP.
Pump manufacturers are discovering new ways to make these pumps more efficient, with closer tolerances. These composites are replacing wear items such as case rings, impeller wear rings, and bushings. Pump manufacturers such as Flowserve have this material available on their spec for new pumps.

One very large benefit of using WR 525 over metal parts is the non-galling aspect. Because WR 525 is a composite, should the wear part touch off against a metal part, the 525 becomes sacrificial without hurting the metal part. The 525 will simply melt, saving the hard-to-get metal parts.
